From BilingualWiki

                      24 horas de Portugues!!!

Contents

Ideia Principal

To LIVE for 24 hours in Portuguese only. So much vocabulary-- from "toothpaste" to "foot funcus" to "pass the jam:. Only Portuguese spoken except in one special room (to pre-empt frustration). There will be no interaction in Engish with the owners of the Bed and Breakfast ("pousada") and no interaction in English with the outside world.

Lidera

Christine Galbreath Jernigan will do this weekend independent of DT.

Quando?

Summer or fall (or both) of 2007, depending on interest.

Onde?

See Blooming Garden Inn in Durham for details on where we'd be staying. They have 5 rooms and a wonderful common area and will give us a group discount.

Como preparar-se (How to Prepare beforehand)

These recommendations are optional, of course, and are for those who really want/need to learn the language quickly. These are also helpful for those who feel they are "behind" other students. (Just a hint, most every student feels "behind" the others.)

1. Look over the first 6 chapters of "Lingua e Cultura." You also might consider purchasing the book:

2. Learn a New Language in 10 Minutes a Day: An excellent book that teaches Brazilian Portuguese in 10 minutes a day using pictures and stickers. It's modern and colorful and its useful survival vocabulary is presented and practiced in fun and relevant contexts. This book's especially good if you travel alot to Brazil.

3. Look ahead to the past tense in Chapter 7 so you'll be ready to talk about what's happened, who you were, what happened last week, etc.

O Que Vai Levar (What will you take with you)?

I'll send details on that closer to the date.

1. But for those of you headed home or having relatives over, we'll need pictures of you when you were a child, adolescent, and other important events (40 b-day, wedding pics, etc.) so have relatives give you yearbooks, old pics and such over the holidays.

2. Pictures of family and friends
